It was these beginning recordings that created the strong following at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia and also created the Matthew Kahler persona; part wacky storyteller, part introspective romantic.In 1995, Matthew and Shawn recorded Jeff's Last Dance, a double, live CD on SMG Records.

In 1999, Mullins produced and collaborated musically with Matthew on his release called, Out of the Blue, clearly an introspective narrative of a more serious nature for Matthew. Following Out of the Blue came a peppier, full-band musical happening that surprised Matthew's fans.
